DIAMOND TRUST BANK OPENS 2ND BRANCH IN ZANZIBAR AT KIJANGWANI

Hon. Ambassador Mohamed Ramia Abdiwawa – Minister of Finance and Planning in the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (right) flanked by Mzee Mohamed Khamis from Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation Limited (TTCL) Board, all in jovial moods after unveiling a plaque that signified the official inauguration of Diamond Trust Bank Kijangwani branch in Zanzibar. The lender opened the second branch in the isles on Tuesday after 11 yearss after opening the first branch which is located in Stone Town. Diamond Trust Bank have extended more than Tzs 100 Billion to SME business in the Island – specifically in Hospitality and Trade . 



Invited customers of the bank follow the proceedings during the inauguration ceremony yesterday of Kijangwani Branch in Zanzibar. 

Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania (DTBT) has opened a second branch in Zanzibar at Kijangwani neighborhood. The branch was inaugurated by Honorable, Ambassador Mohamed Ramia Abdiwawa –The Minister of Finance and Planning in the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, on Tuesday 8thSeptember 2020 at Kijangwani.

Ambassador Abdiwawa, while inaugurating the branch; congratulated Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania for the second branch in the Island and its efforts in taking financial services closer to all Zanzibaris. “I’m aware DTBs focus in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector of the economy, a segment that drives the economy, creates employment and generates revenue to our Government through taxes and Foreign exchange.


“The need to financially include every citizen can’t be underestimated at this point in time following the elevation of the Tanzanian economy into the Lower-middle-income status by World Bank; 5 years earlier than expected. This accolade is majorly contributed by a reinforcement of leadership ethics, economic reforms, implementation of flagship projects and investment in human development by the Government. I challenge my fellow Zanzibaris to utilize the services rendered by DTB in SME sector in playing a role in the middle-income economy” Ambassador Abdiwawa reiterated.

Speaking to the members of press during the official launch ceremony, DTB-Tanzania Country Manager and CEO, Mr. Viju Cherian, said that “The opening of the 2ndbranch in Zanzibar at Kijangwani is a re-affirmation of the Bank’s commitment of expanding its geographical reach and moving closer to unbanked Tanzanians. The branch expansion strategy that begun in 2008 when the bank had only 4 branches - has witnessed the opening of 24 new branches which have employed many Tanzanian youths directly and indirectly and improved the economies in the regions in which we operate as a business”.

DTB-Tanzania has played a huge role in the growth of economy of Zanzibar through extension of Credit facilities to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) specifically in Trade and Hospitality sectors of the economy. The Bank has extended more than Tzs 100 Billionto businesses in the Island since the opening of the first branch in Stone town 11 years ago.

DTB Tanzania has a network of 28 branches in Tanzania, 12 branches in Dar es Salaam (CBD Branch, Magomeni Branch, Main Branch, Masaki Branch, Mbagala Branch, Mbezi Branch, Mbezi Chini Branch, Mlimani Branch, Morocco Branch, Nyerere Branch, Uhuru Branch, and Upanga Branch) Regional Branches include 2 branches in Arusha, Mwanza & Zanzibar and 1 branch each at Dodoma, Iringa, Kahama, Mbeya, Morogoro, Moshi, Mtwara, Tabora, Tanga and Singida.

DTB Tanzania is part of the Diamond Trust Bank group, a pan East African Bank with over 130 branches across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, & Burundi. The Bank is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the economic development arm of the Aga Khan Development Network.
