Jhpiego, in collaboration with the governments of Tanzania through the Ministry of Health, community development, Gender, elderly and Children,
 today has launched a bold initiative project called The Challenge 
Initiative- Tupange Pamoja Project to address the reproductive health 
needs of the urban poor population that will be implemented in Dar es 
Salaam, Arusha, Morogoro, Mwanza and Dodoma Regions to scale up family 
planning solutions.
Giving
 the overview of the project, the Jhpiego Country Director Jeremie 
Zoungrana  says the Initiative is built around the premise that will be 
putting municipalities in urban in the driver’s seat through an 
innovative, demand- driven approach by ensuring that they bring their 
own resources (cash or in-kind) to the table and the most promising 
proposals to have access to the Challenge Fund, which is seeded by the 
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

 are happy that Tanzania has been identified to be part of the TCI to 
scale up Family Planning in order to reach additional women and girls 
with voluntary Family Planning services over the next three to five 
years through the Tupange Pamoja Project. We sincerely thanks the 
Government of Tanzania for their strong commitment and leadership 
already observed at the decentralized level” says Jeremie
As part 
of the Government commitment the Guest of Honor Dr. Janeth Mghamba, 
Acting Director of Preventive Services, Representing, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu,
 the Minister of Health Community Development Gender Elderly and 
Children says this  project for family Planning in Tanzania has come at 
an opportune time when Tanzania Government under the leadership of His 
Excellency, Doctor John Pombe Magufuli is preaching about Improved 
economic conditions for its people and family planning is one of the 
agenda toward attaining Sustainable Development Goals .
Earlier, 
the Lord Mayor of the Dar es Salaam City Council Isaya Mwita gave his 
assurance during the Launch that Dar es Salaam municipalities are ready 
to roll the ball toward scaling up family planning solution to achieve 
economic growth for its people.
