What does a bank, goats, drinks, good food and charity have in common?
Not much, you may think.
But in case you missed it, goats will race at The Green grounds on
Kenyatta Drive in the city for the annual Dar es Salaam Charity Goat
Races. This Saturday, the races will reach their climax after a 16-year run as the social event of the year.
Stanbic Bank has
sponsored the event over the years that has grown leaps and bounds in
supporting special groups, vulnerable children and charity organizations
in the country.
The Goat Races are a fun
family event, attracting thousands from across the country. The bank’s
true blues race will also battle it out in a competitive finale.
However, in all the fun,
it’s important to remember that the event’s ultimate purpose is to
raise funds for charities in Tanzania and create a wider awareness in
the community about less fortunate groups in need of support.
Speaking during a press
conference on Wednesday, the race committee co-chairperson, Rachel
Carlin said preparations for the eagerly awaited event are on course and
that they expect to raise Sh120million during the event.
